Pick-up vehicle hits Guv’s escort car, five injured

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Governor’s escort vehicle was hit by a speeding Mahindra pick-up at Mawiong Rim around 12.50pm on Wednesday.
Five security personnel were injured in the incident that happened when Governor Banwarilal Purohit was travelling from Guwahati to Shillong. On reaching Mawiong Rim near a ‘no entry’ lane, one of the escort vehicles of the governor (ML10 B 0227) driven by Rinaldo F Khyriem was hit by the pick-up vehicle (ML05 0731) driven by Kwoster Diengdoh.
The injured security personnel are Gopal Gurung, Ranjit Mamandhar, A Sawian, A Rai and M Marboh.
The driver of the Mahindra pick-up was arrested. 108 Service from Lawmali was dispatched. All the injured security personnel were shifted to Shillong civil hospital.
