Constable Lusen A Sangma of the 3rd Meghalaya Police Battalion surrendered at Kharkutta police station after absconding for four days.

He surrendered without his self-loading rifle which he had decamped with after shooting Havildar Litsingh Inghi and told police that he had abandoned it in a jungle shortly after the incident.

He reportedly told police that the deceased Havildar had verbally abused him that night and in angry retaliation he opened fire at him from his service weapon.

The arrested constable was taken back to the battalion headquarters at Khlieh Tyrshi in West Jaintia Hills to search for the rifle which he had abandoned. The rifle has since been found in a jungle  which was used by the constable to flee after the shooting incident.
