GUWAHATI: “The students must be shaped as resources for the future of the society with quality education and for that a holistic academic environment has to be provided. People of the state must take reponsibility to make Assam one of the best states of the country and this can be achieved only through quality education.
“For creating the conducive environment to nurture the young students, the teachers have to play an important role so that students can establish themselves as able citizens and contribute meaningfully to the society” Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Friday while distributing appointment letters to the newly-recruited principals and lecturers of Pandit Deendayal Upadhaye Adarsha Mahavidyalayas at a programme organised by Higher Education Department at Janata Bhawan.
Sonowal also called on the teachers to educate their students about the great personalities associated with their institutions and their contributions so that they can draw inspiration from these examples.
Saying that teachers must inspire the brilliant students to remain in the state and serve the society, Sonowal remarked that Assam is deprived of the services of its meritorious students who go outside the state in large numbers.
Speaking in the meeting Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that from now onwards people do not need to set up educational institutes as the government would establish such institutes wherever they are needed. Informing that 12 Pandit Deendayal Upadhaye Adarsha Mahavidyalayas are being set up in the state, Sarma said that the Central Government would provide Rs 4 crore to each of the institutes whereas an amount of Rs 7 crore has been released by the state government.
Saying that people will have higher expectations from these Mahavidyalayas as these are government institutes, Sarma called on the newly-recruited lecturers to engage themselves with a selfless spirit to serve the society. The Education Minister also informed that 8 girls’ colleges would be set up in minority-dominated areas.
Urging the teachers to carry out their duties taking inspiration from Pandit Deendayal Upadhaye’s example, Sarma said that these institutes of higher education must become the centre of social resurgence.
