NONGSTOIN: The Lyngam Indigensous Federation (LIF) on Thursday released a statement denying that there were any records of a person from Riangmaw who had applied for an EPIC in Mawshynrut constituency.
President of the LIF Ever Pearl Mawsor, said that after the Federation received information about the voter in Riangmaw, he had filed a complaint to the election branch in the DC’s office in Nongstoin.
This was revealed by the LIF after they had filed a complaint in form 7 of the electoral role on July 28 to the Election Branch, Deputy Commissioner Office, West Khasi Hills against the existence of one Albath M. Sangma who claimed that he had the EPIC as he was a resident of Riangmaw.
During the inquiry at the Election Branch, the LIF found that his documents and birth certificate showed that he was from Balsrigittim, South Garo Hills.
The LIF alleged that he may have forged his documents to obtain the EPIC.
Mawsor told reporters here that there is no record of any person in Riangmaw going by the name of Albath M. Sangma and strongly suspects that he is an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh.
After the complaint was launched on July 28, the Election Department called Anthony Lyngdoh and K.Mawsor of Riangmaw polling station for a hearing on Thursday at Dorangre.
The LIF members raised a complaint during the hearing along with proof that Sangma is not a resident of Riangmaw. It demanded that Sangma should return the EPIC or an FIR will be filed.
