SHILLONG: Meghalaya is all geared up to celebrate Independence Day in a befitting manner.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has asked the people of the state to come out in large numbers like the preceding years to celebrate the day of the country’s freedom.
Speaking to mediapersons after approving the names of the VIPs taking the salute in the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, in the Cabinet meeting on Friday, Sangma said, “In the past, people came out in large numbers and participated aggressively, both in Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations.”
“In fact, some areas showed a record turnout,” Sangma said.
He also praised the people of the state for defying bandhs called by anti-national groups even as he asserted that it was the responsibility of the state government to ensure that people come out with enthusiasm in celebrating the day of freedom.
