VDP’s vigil in Nongjri-Umsur areas

MAWKYRWAT: After the two incidents in which two local youths from Nongjri-Umsur area, South West Khasi Hills District were abducted by the group of Bangladesh gang, the Village Defense Parties (VDPs) from the areas are now keeping their eyes open and remain vigil to stop such crimes from happening in the future.
“VDPs are patrolling every night especially in Nongjri, Umsur and Nonghyllam villages,” South West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, H.G. Lyngdoh said.
Lyngdoh also informed that the Police Department on Friday conducted a VDP rally in Nongjri in which more than 200 VDP members from Nongjri, Umsur, Nonghyllam, Kulang, Khonjoi, Bagli and Umbar village were attending.
“We explained their roles and functions so that they can conduct patrolling effectively and help us maintain vigil in those areas,” Lyngdoh said, while informing that the VDPs have expressed their willingness to work hand in hand with the police to control crime in the area.
