SHILLONG: Former BJP leader Bernard Marak, who had waged a beef war against the saffron party, has said the present BJP leaders in Garo Hills are power hungry and are joining the party just to make money.
In a statement on Saturday, Marak alleged nepotism in BJP by saying that many aspiring candidates are related to one another.
Commenting on Dalu, he said, “BJP will not make a mark in Dalu and this is evident from the en masse resignation of members in the constituency.
Marak accused the BJP’s Garo Hills unit of turning into dynastic and ignoring hard-workers.
“BJP candidate for Tura South, Akki Sangma, is the son of Rongjeng BJP candidate Rikman Momin”, he said.
Another BJP leader, Edmund K Sangma is related to Rangsakona aspiring candidate Pesath Sangma, he added.
None of these leaders supported Conrad Sangma in the last election even after a central directive and “they worked against the party principle and now they are sacking dedicated party workers to promote their relatives”, he added.
The bellicose Garo leader, while explaining why it would not perform well in the region, said Dilash M Marak, the new president of BJP’s Tura City unit, is not a local.
“Dilash is ignorant as ever. He does not even know that Utpol Marak was the head even before I became district president of Tura City. They have been attempting to remove all dedicated members from the party since they joined BJP,” said Marak .
Utpol was sacked because he was the backbone of BJP in Dalu, the leader said.
Dilash is BJP’s face in Dadenggre and he is projecting his cousin and present MDC of Dalu Kurosh M Marak.
The Garo leader suggested that the BJP’s central leadership must look into these pitfalls.
