UDP poll review meet held in Tura
TURA: Senior leaders of the United Democratic Party (UDP) held a meeting to review poll preparations in Garo Hills on Tuesday evening. The meeting at the hall of the Council of Nokmas here was attended by UDP state president Donkupar Roy, working presidents Bindo M Lanong and Mahamsing M Sangma, state vice president Alan Dkhar, district president Utpal Arengh, youth wing working president Utjol Sangma, state youth wing joint secretary Anand M Marak and a host of other leaders from Garo Hills. Roy predicted the party’s success in Khasi and Jaintia hills in the Assembly polls and urged his counterparts from Garo Hills to work hard for similar results. Roy also predicted that the UDP along with other regional parties will form the government post 2018. Lanong, while questioning the achievements of the Mukul Sangma-led Congress in the last eight years, said the people should be made aware of the situation in the state. He urged the leaders from Garo Hills to work together so that the party achieves maximum success in the elections.

Body recovered
NONGPOH:  The body of an unidentified man was recovered from 13th Mile, Tamulkuchi, Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi on Monday, police said. SP said efforts have been made to know about the antecedents of the man who apparently was in his forties. His body has been kept at the morgue of Civil Hospital.
State gets Direct Benefit Transfer portal
SHILLONG: The State has finally got its Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) portal that will provide beneficiaries information about central and state schemes in Meghalaya where benefits are transferred directly. The portal was launched on August 4 by Sanjay Goyal, Secretary, Finance Department, in the presence of T. Dkhar, State Informatics Officer, NIC, Shillong, W. Shallam, Director of Accounts and Treasuries and other government officials.The state Portal will serve as a dashboard of the implementation of DBT by the government for the welfare of the citizens. The portal will be linked with dbtbharat of the Government of India and is accessible on http://megdbt.gov.in.

SHILLONG: This Chief Secretary has informed that a new Administrative Unit will be created in the South West Khasi Hills District, with headquarter at Ranikor. Consequent upon its creation, the Administrative Unit shall function from its headquarter with effect from Thursday.

MBCC congratulates Celestine
SHILLONG: The Mawhati Block Congress Committee (MBCC) congratulated Celestine Lyngdoh after he was recently inducted as the Cabinet minister. Lyngdoh expressed his gratitude to the MBCC for working for the party despite having no MLA. He urged them to remain united in order for Mawhati to get a Congress MLA.

Dry day in Ri Bhoi on Independence Day
NONGPOH: The deputy commissioner of Ri Bhoi district, Nongpoh in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 52 (1) of ME Act (Assam Excise Act & Rules as adapted by Meghalaya) has ordered the closure of all IMFL retail shops, bars in hotels, bonded warehouses, bottling units, country-made spirit shops, breweries, canteens, etc located in Ri Bhoi district on Independence Day.
