SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has yet again staged a protest ahead of an inauguration ceremony — this time prior to the foundation laying of Shillong Government College of Engineering on the campus of Shillong Polytechnic on Friday.
Asserting that there are pending demands of the HYC which the state refuses to address, Rhembor Saibon, assistant secretary of HYC said, “If the government continues to maintain silence, we will look at other ways and means later.”
HYC members had protested before the inauguration of the multi-facility utility centre at Mawkhar in East Khasi Hills on Wednesday and prior to the opening of the administrative unit at Ranikor in South West Khasi Hills on Thursday.
Stating that the district administration has not allowed them to carry placards or shout slogans with the promulgation of Section144 he said, “We will comply with the law as long as we can tolerate.”
He said the HYC would keep pressing for implementation of ILP apart from various anti-influx laws issues included in its 14-point charter of demands.
HYC has protested against the state government for the third consecutive day on Friday ever since the launch of its Save Hynniewtrep Mission.
Under the mission, HYC has decided to launch a series of agitation in a “surprised manner” by different units of the council in all the constituencies represented by ruling legislators.
