Prohibitory order against protests during functions

SHILLONG: With the venue where the chief minister Mukul Sangma attends programme is becoming a target of various pressure groups, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District, has promulgated an order under  Section 144 CrPC prohibiting any person or persons holding spontaneous black flag demonstration and burning of effigies without permission.
The magistrate also obstructed any vehicular movement in the area around the place of the function and carrying of arms and any other lethal weapons or any other item/material having the potential to be used as a weapon which can likely  cause grievous injury or harm to any person or persons in and around the city and the entire district.
In a statement, the magistrate said that the order has been issued in the context of prevailing law and order situation in the district and in view of various official functions which are being attended by VVIPs, “and wherein there is a possibility that some NGOs may hold spontaneous black flag demonstration and may resort to other activities which may result in breakdown of law and order in the District and whereas, it is necessary to ensure peace and tranquility in and around the vicinity of the venues for smooth conduct of all official functions”.
