TURA: Many villages in South Garo Hills were flooded on Saturday as the Simsang swelled following torrential rain for the past three days.
Eight households at Bandapara, 22 at Dangshubill and two at Mankengre had to be evacuated to relief camps set up at Dimapara and Bandapara schools as water level kept rising.
As many as three landslides occurred along the highway connecting Barengapara and Baghmara.
“The landslides occurred between Dimapara and Jatrakona but vehicles can move through,” said officials in Baghmara.
The Baghmara market has been flooded and even the police station was affected by mudslide following the incessant rain since Thursday.
The Dimapara-Barengapara-Kharonggre road has been cut off at Chandapara due to the Bugai river flooding the road link.
Authorities have been unable to fully assess the damages in Ruga area because the bridge linking the area was submerged at Gandugre village.
