Assam flood scene remains grim, CS takes stock over video conference

GUWAHATI:  Assam Chief Secretary, V K Pipersenia on Monday reviewed the current flood situation of the State in a video conference with the deputy commissioners of the flood affected districts of the State in presence of the senior officials of the State. Even as the flood situation has remained grim in the state.

 

The death has mounted to at least 15 while more areas have been inundated in the affected 21 districts. Road communication has been snapped in many parts of the state with flood water overtopping highways.

While taking stock of the flood situation Chief Secretary directed the Deputy Commissioners of the flood affected districts to gear up flood relief and rescue operation of the affected people on a war footing. He also directed DCs to keep vigil on relief and rescue works upto the grass-root level by smoothly co-ordinating in all sphere and to distribute relief materials to all the flood affected people.

The Chief Secretary further asked to provide two more National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) boats in Morigaon district and to make necessary arrangement for aerial survey of the flood affected areas of Morigaon and Nagaon Districts. He also assured that the government will take all possible steps for tackling the current flood situation in the state and to help the people who suffer immensely due to current wave of flood.

Trains services disrupted between N-E and rest of India: Meanwhile, train services between Guwahati and the rest of the country have been severely affected due to heavy rainfall and flood in West Bengal, Bihar, Assam and other NE states.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) authority has informed that railway operations being severely hampered as rain and flood water have affected railway tracks at several places in Katihar and Alipurduar divisions of the NFR.

As a result, a number of trains had to be stopped at various stations and a number of other trains had to be cancelled or rescheduled/ short-terminated. Some of the trains had to be brought back to originating stations or other convenient stations after attending to watering and taking other measures.
