SHILLONG: Elaborate security measures have been put in place for Tuesday’s celebrations of the 70th Independence Day.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Monday, Director General of Police SB Singh said the Police Department has made preparations to handle any situation.
“All security measures are in place and we have deployed many forces everywhere,” he said.
Singh said apart from central paramilitary forces, the newly established Special Force 10 (SF-10) has also been deployed.
Like the previous years, a host of programmes has been arranged in the city, apart from the official function at Polo ground.
The official parade programme will begin at 9 am which will be followed by cultural events at the venue.
A dog show cum dog exhibition will be organised and BSF band will perform at Ward’s Lake.
Later in the day, a musical programme at Khyndailad is also on the list, besides children’s section. Food stalls will be there for visitors to refuel.
Meanwhile, Khyndailad and many government offices in the city have been illuminated for Independence Day.
The trend has changed in Shillong in the past 2-3 years after the High Court banned bandhs in State and now people are coming out in hordes to celebrate the day.
