Laitumkhrah, Nongrim Hills emerge champs

SHILLONG: Laitumkhrah SC defeated Tyllilang SC 52-41 in the men’s final while Nongrim Hills SC got the better of Nehlang SC 52-38 in the women’s final of the Meghalaya Open Basketball Championship for men and women that concluded at JN Sports Complex, Polo here on Tuesday.
Speaking as chief guest of the closing ceremony, PS Dkhar, deputy commissioner of East Khasi Hills district, while encouraging the players, assured support to the association in the future.
There was a one minute’s silence in memory of former vice president of Meghalaya Basketball Association, F.S. Rymbai and former member, Adolf Nongrum who passed away last year.
The ceremony culminated with the national anthem.
“On behalf of the MBA, I thank all the benefactors, volunteers, well wishers and all participating teams who with their contributions have made this championship a grand success,” Donald Steven Wahlang, joint secretary of the MBA, said.
