SHLLONG: A video of a commander who appeared to be drunk while leading an official parade at Ampati on Independence Day has gone viral on social media, including Facebook and Whatsapp.
The 58-second video shows the commander, who was supposed to lead the parade, taking his own route while the rest of the contingent took another.
The commander who has been identified as Ruffy Sangma appeared to be shaky during the parade.
However, South West Garo Hills superintendent of police Bobby S.W Momin denied the reports saying the commander was absolutely fine before the parade but his blood pressure had shot up during the parade.
“I had sent him to the doctor and it was confirmed (by the doctor) that he had not consumed alcohol or was not injured.
The doctor also told the Ampati police that he had fever and cold besides feeling weak.
The doctor also recommended some nutritious diet to the commander.
“The same commander had also led the parade last year,” SP said.
Home minister (Police) H.D.R. Lyngdoh had unfurled the Tricolour before a gathering of over 5000 people and 30 parade contingents at Ampati.
