SHILLONG: The Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya on Thursday marked 69 years of the Instrument of Accession and Annexed Agreement (IoA & AA) signed on August 17, 1948.
A meeting was held at Youth Hostel in which Sordar, headmen and Myntri were present. John Kharshiing, chairman of the council, was also there.
According to Kharshiing, the provisions of the Instrument of Accession and Annexed Agreement are clear on matters relating to executive, legislative and judicial affairs.
He urged the gathering to ponder over the discussion of IoA and AA.
He asked the chiefs (Syiem), Sordar, Myntri and headmen about their position in terms of administration.
“Our (Chiefs of Federation of Khasi states) agreement with India should be made very clear,” the chairman said.
The Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya comprised the Assembly of Hynniewtrep Nations, the Federation of Khasi states/Ki Sirdarship/Ka Dorbar ki Dolloi and Council of Nokmas.
The Instrument of Accession and Annexed Agreement was a legal document signed with the 25 Khasi states in 1948.
