Stress on rainwater harvesting

SHILLONG: Rainwater harvesting is not new to the people of the state but it has to be implemented properly, said Mawkyrwat MDC Hadrian Lyngdoh at a workshop on Thursday.
Addressing a gathering on the concluding day of a workshop on rainwater harvesting at Maharam Government Higher Secondary School in Mawkyrwat, Lyngdoh said, “Water is one of the basic necessities of life. People should be involved in rainwater harvesting a system.”
“The area is one of the wettest places on earth and conservation of water is a must for days when there is scarcity,” he added.
The programme was organised by the State Project Director of SEMAM, SSA and Director of School Education and Literacy, Meghalaya, in collaboration with Meghalaya Basin Development Authority, Water Resource and Earthanus Auroville Foundation, Pondicherry.
