A’chik body seizes timber

SHILLONG: A local unit of the All A’chik Youth Federation (AAYF) seized a timber-laden truck on August 17 night at 7th mile of Dainadubi area in North Garo Hills.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Dainadubi regional unit of AAYF said trees in the Rongjeng and Mangsang reserve forests were illegally felled and were meant to be supplied to the neighbouring Assam.
An FIR in this regard was filed with the police.
The seized truck which did not have any registration number plate, but only A/F was handed over to the local forest department office.
AAYF has threatened to take action against the forest department office if the seized vehicle is released.
Federation president Watson Marak also petitioned the North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner in this regard.
