SHILLONG: Information and Technology Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday launched the Meghalaya Super 60, an e-coaching centre for IIT-JEE and NEET aspirants.
The unit, which aims at helping local aspirants tide over the cut-throat competition in top professional colleges in the country, was built in collaboration with Meghalaya Information Technology Society (MITS) and BYJU, a learning app.
Speaking on the occasion at Yojana Bhavan, Lyngdoh said, “It is important to invest for the future. It is a long-term programme that the State Government has invested in which will yield positive results.”
Informing that the government has invested Rs 27,000 per student, she hoped that the first batch will set a standard for the future groups.
“There is enthusiasm among the youth in the State. Children are willing to ‘get there and be there’ in the competitive examinations of the country,” she added.
DP Wahlang, Principal Secretary, said the coaching programme is meant for 60 meritorious Class XI tribal students including those from families below poverty line and seats are divided into half between IIT-JEE and NEET.
The 60 students have been selected from among 392 based on their 10th Board Examination 2017 marks in Mathematics and Science. “The list of Super 60 students includes those from BPL families in which five are for IIT-JEE and five for NEET coaching,” Wahlang said.
The State Government and the coaching partner (BYJU) will monitor the progress of students through an online portal, and will provide timely feedback.
The centre will also have facilities like high-speed internet, printers and scanners. As part of the inauguration, selected students received tablets with pre-loaded course content for IIT-JEE/NEET, including question bank and practice sets.
