UDP to shortly release first list of candidates

SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) will soon announce the first list of candidates for the 2018 elections.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Tuesday, UDP working president Bindo Lanong said the first list would be announced any time soon but he did not elaborate on the number of candidates.
When asked about the party’s alliance with the Garo National Council (GNC) for 24 seats in Garo Hills, Lanong said deliberations are going on smoothly.
UDP, which is considered to be a strong contender of the Congress in next year’s assembly elections, has so far negotiated on 12 seats four of which has been allotted to GNC.
He further said they are trying to finalise the alliance with with GNC at the earliest.
UDP has forged a similar alliance with the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) for 36 seats in Khasi-Jaintia Hills region.
