Chinese company among participants in  electric vehicle expo in Assam

GUWAHATI: Notwithstanding the stand-off between Chinese and Indian armies at Doklam, a Chinese battery-operated vehicle manufacturing company participated in a three-day ‘Battery Vehicle Tech Expo’ that got underway at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre here.

The Chinese company is among the total 28 electric vehicle manufacturing companies including one from Japan that have participated in the expo that was inaugurated by Assam’s Transport, Industries and Commerce minister Chandra Mohan Patowary.

The minister underlined the importance of e-rickshaws in connecting the nook and corners of the state. He also said that e-rickshaws can open new vistas of employment opportunities to a large extent. Appreciating different technical benefits of e-rickshaws, he also added that it is one of the most eco-friendly vehicles used as pubic carriers.

The minister stated that e-rickshaws will be included for funding under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and upcoming scheme of Industries and Commerce Department, ‘Swami Vivekananda Assam Youth Empowerment (SVAYEM) scheme so that it can be a source of income for the unemployed youths.

Reiterating that Assam is the gateway to South-East Asia, Patowary stated, ‘If you think of investment, think Assam’ while calling on global traders to invest and set up production centres in the state.

The Minister also inaugurated the office of the Chairman, Assam Trade Promotion Organisation (ATPO), Prabin Hazarika, at the trade centre.
