SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) central body has stated that the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Could (KHADC) should prepare a database of over 3000 trading licenses of non-tribals in a bid to check rampant issuance of trading licenses.

Speaking to reporters on Monday after meeting the KHADC Chief PN Syiem, HYV general secretary, Robert Kharjahrin argued that the KHADC has a role in the issuance of trading licenses.

“Had the issuance of licenses be properly checked, the burden of illegal immigration could have been lightened,” he said.

He took exception that some Khasi Chiefs (Syiem) issue No Objection Certificate (NOC) although he is not authorized to do so. “Even headmen who issue NOCs should consult the Dorbar Shnong. For this, proceedings of the Dorbar Shnong is also needed,” he said.

Again, Kharjahrin pointed out that the KHADC should be stringent in terms of issuing labour service license.

On the other hand, he urged the KHADC to deploy its enforcement wing personnel in other parts of Khasi Hills so that inspection would become easier.
