Assam Rifles men destroy NSCN-R hide-out, recover arms, ammunition

Guwahati: Serving a blow to the insurgents belonging to NSCN (R), troops of Assam Rifles destroyed a hide-out of the ultras and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition following an exchange of fire near Kovin Honkap in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Monday night.

A Defence source informed that Jairampur Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of Dao division launched an operation based on an intelligence input regarding  presence of NSCN(R) cadres in  Kovin Honkap  who were trying to terrorise people and carryout extortion.

The swift operation by Assam Rifles resulted in recovery of an AK-56 assault rifle , one M-16 rifle with ammunition , an Under Barrel Grenade Launcher and other incriminating evidence following a heavy exchange of fire with the insurgents. The heavy retaliatory fire from the security men forced the insurgents to abandoned their weapons and flee under cover of darkness.

Blood stains at the site indicates towards likely casualty inflicted on the insurgents. The security forces are on the lookout for these insurgents and have engaged multiple parties to track the ultras who had fled the incident site taking advantage of darkness and dense vegetation in the area.
