BJP ‘Sankalp’ event in Jowai today
SHILLONG: BJP will hold a “Sankalp Se Siddhi” (New India Movement) to commemorate 75 years of Quit India Movement at Tpep-Pale Community hall in Jowai on Tuesday. Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain will be present on the occasion. The programme will start at 4 pm. Meanwhile, the BJP East Khasi Hills district has elected office bearers to the Sohra Mandal Committee at a meeting held at Mawkdok on Saturday. Pillar Nongkhlaw is the new president, Rogest Diengdoh the vice president and Rothel Khongsit the general secretary, besides 15 other executive members.

NPP youth wing demands EGH devp
TURA: The youth wing of the National People’s Party (NPP) in East and West Garo Hills has urged the East Garo Hills deputy commissioner to look into several issues pertaining to the development of the district. The youth leaders, in a joint memorandum to the DC, urged him to resume the work on the Simsang Bridge that stopped several years ago. They also asked him to start Williamnagar Polytechnic College which, despite its completion, is yet to start functioning. They also said Williamnagr town was not connected to either NH-44 or NH-62 though they are only a few kilometers away.

Grade IV staff in GH demand revised pay
TURA: The All Garo Hills IV Grade Government Employees’ Association has threatened to agitate if the government failed to give a positive response on revised pay as per the 5th Pay Commission by September. A meeting of the association was held recently at Dakopgre in Tura where it demanded that revised pay as per the commission must either be released or the government should clarify its status. “The Finance Department must release the revised pay by September. If not, the government must make an official announcement when it is going to be released within the same duration of time,” the employees said.

Roadshow to promote education and skill devp
Shillong: The State Government with the support of Aide et Action in collaboration with the Mawsynram Higher Secondary School will organise a roadshow, a mass mobilisation programme themed, ‘Choose your future, Choose to work’ at Mawsynram Station, East Khasi Hills District on August 30 at 2:00 pm under the Project Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya (SHCDM).

Indira Gandhi: A Life… to be released today
SHILLONG: Former Union Minister for Environment, Jairam Ramesh will be in Shillong on Tuesday, for the release of his book, Indira Gandhi: A Life in Nature, at the Royal Tavern, Heritage Hotel at 6 pm. Editor, The Shillong Times, Patricia Mukhim will be in conversation with Jairam Ramesh on different aspects of the book which gives a hitherto unknown facet of Indira Gandhi’s personality and her role in environment conservation.
