Sex racket case: Subedar, two others in 14-day judicial custody

SHILLONG: Three army men, a Subedar of the Assam Rifles and two riflemen of the Assam Regiment Centre, were sent to 14-day judicial custody on Monday in connection with the sex racket case in Mawblei as reported on Saturday evening.
As many as nine persons, including five girls, were picked up by police after they raided a house at Mawblei that was used for prostitution.
East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak said while the army men identified as Subedar of the Assam Rifles Tahir Hussain Talukdar (47), riflemen of the Assam Regiment Dilbar Singh (38) and Hafta Singh (30) were sent to judicial custody, the pimp identified as Mintu Das (28) and three girls will be produced before the court on Tuesday. Two minor girls hailing from Guwahati were earlier sent to a shelter home.
The SP said the three women who were arrested in connection with the sex racket case have been identified as Chabia Sangma (20) from Pilangkatta on Ri Bhoi border, Nomita Ch Marak (38) from Baghmara and Moromi Haloi (20) from Beltola, Assam.
The main accused, Sameer Dey, who is a tenant, is on the run and police had earlier seized his vehicle.
Besides sections under trafficking, POCSO cases were also slapped on the accused.
