MPCC dissolves more block committees

SHILLONG: After dissolving Umroi and Mawkyrwat block Congress committees recently, MPCC on Tuesday dissolved more units, including Nartiang, represented by sitting Congress legislator Sniawbhalang Dhar.
While Umroi constituency is represented by Dhar’s brother, Ngaitlang Dhar, Mawkyrwat legislator is Rowell Lyngdoh.
In a statement, MPCC said the blocks were reconstituted with assistance from the district Congress committees to make them more functional.
The sitting legislators used to head the block Congress committees.
After the dissolution of Nartiang Block Congress Committee, Apolynarius Kon was appointed as new president. Besides, Mairang Block Congress Committee was also dissolved and former MLA-MDC Rasor Rani will be the new president. The new president of Mawkynrew Block Congress Committee is Lamborskhem Kharpuri and in Mawryngkneng, Banshanlang Lawai was appointed as the new president.
However, in a separate statement, the president of Mawryngkneng Block Congress Committee, Pynehborlang Mukhim, said he resigned from the post on ‘personal ground’ and a letter in this regard was addressed to the president, District Congress Committee (DCC), Kennedy Khyriem and other party leaders.
In the 2013 Assembly elections, Mukhim emerged second with 5574 votes while the sitting Independent legislator, David Nongrum, secured 6200 votes.
