SHILLONG: The city police are keeping a close vigil on hotels and guest houses after a sex racket was busted in Madanrting last Saturday.
Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak asserted that strict monitoring of guest houses and hotels in the city is pushing such rackets to other locations.
He added that reports say some small-time traffickers are even drug peddlers.
According to the SP, there are pimps in the city who are arranging girls from Shillong and even bringing some from Guwahati.
The city police busted a prostitution racket on Saturday evening and arrested 10 persons, including six girls.
The three army men who were arrested along with the girls in the Madanrting case are in custody. Five girls, including two minors, were produced in the court on Tuesday.
The police raided a house located at Mawblei, Madanrting Block B, around 7 pm and arrested five sex workers and four men.
The tenant, Sameer Dey, was running the sex racket but he is absconding.
