Agartala: The Rural Development Minister of Tripura Naresh Jamatia along with three other CPI(M) leaders narrowly escaped last evening from an attack allegedly resorted by the supporters of Indigenous People’s Font of Tripura (IPFT), which have been demanding separate state for tribals.
Police said as many as four workers of CPI(M) were injured severely in the attack and shifted to Agartala Govt Medical College at night. However, doctors stated them to be out of danger. Police is investigating the case but no arrest so far.
Minister Jamatia said there was a rally of CPI(M) on their ongoing campaign on six points charter of demands against BJP led government at the Centre in the evening. Suddenly, some miscreants started pelting stones on the supporters and attacked the rally with bow and arrow, iron stick and traditional weapons taking advantage of darkness.
“Tripura State Rifles jawans and other paramilitary forces deployed in the area could able to safely shift me to a nearby security camp but four of our local leaders injured in the attack and supporters who attended the rally managed to escape from the ground,” Mr Jamatia said.
He said police immediately launched haunt against the miscreants in the surrounding areas but nobody was arrested and added, “The miscreants were believed to be the supporters of IPFT, as they have such precedence in past and this is also a part of conspiracy hatched by opposition BJP against CPI(M).”
The criminals fled away when CPI(M( workers and security forces launched counter attack, Mr Jamatia said and added that the party would certainly launched programme against such activities indulged by the political miscreants.
The CPI(M) state Secretary Bijan Dhar condemned the incident and warned, “Such undemocratic activities of IPFT cannot be tolerated anymore. The party has already requested the government to take appropriate action against the criminals who repeatedly triggering panic button and violence.” (UNI)
