SHILLONG: Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) is fooling its customers by selling high-priced meters which are programmed to generate inflated bills, alleged an aggrieved consumer from Laban.
The consumer said MeECL is first sending inflated bills. When a consumer is seeking rectification, then MeECL is asking him to go for a new meter priced at Rs 1,300 citing that the old one has developed faults.
Several gullible consumers from Greater Laban area have been harassed.
“Not only my existing good meter was replaced but now I am paying more for the same consumption of electricity,” said the customer while showing the proof of his statement.
Some among the aggrieved consumers said when they installed new meters they were allowed to forego the inflated bills.
The affected consumers have urged authorities concerned to take action against those in charge of Greater Laban.
