SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has asked the state government to come up with uniform pay scale for teachers without differentiating the category they belong to, be it ad-hoc, deficit or SSA.
Conveying its wishes to teachers on the eve of Teachers’ Day, the HYC demanded that teachers be recognized as gazetted officers and should get all kinds of allowances.
The council also demanded separate schemes for students from BPL category, besides introduction of the Admission Fee Waiver Scheme, like in other states, and 100 per cent hike in scholarships.
The HYC has also extended support to the demands of the teachers.
The Jaintia Students’ Union, while greeting teachers on the occasion, lauded their service and dedication. It expressed concern that teachers have to agitate for their rights. Teachers’ groups greet: Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers’ Association (MUPSTA) wished the teachers all over the country on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.
In a statement on Monday, MUPSTA said the occasion will be a reminder of the strong values and foundation laid by the ancestors who had dedicated themselves to impart knowledge “which has made us who we are today”.
MUPSTA hoped that the special day would encourage teachers to do their best to enlighten students as the teachers are the second parents to the students.
The Meghalaya Retired College Teachers’ Association (MRCTA) also wished all the teachers of the State and the Nation at all levels a Happy Teachers’ Day. On this day, the MRCTA hopes that, in times to come, teachers will attain a more dignified life and also that they will perform their duties as diligently as ever.
