HSPDP releases second list of candidates

SHILLONG: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Tuesday released the second list of its candidates for the 2018 Assembly elections.
The candidates are from Mawryngkneng, Mawkyrwat and Sohra constituencies.
The party ticket from Mawryngkneng went to Blatsbor Kharpran, the ticket from Mawkyrwat constituency to Renikton L Tongkhar while that from Sohra constituency went to Droistar Khongsti.
Kharpran, who retired from the Meghalaya Rural Bank as a branch manager, was a former member of Khasi Students’ Union, Sohryngkham unit.
Tongkhar, a B.Com graduate, has been involved in politics for 20 years.
Khongsti, a postgraduate, was a part-time lecturer in St Anthony’s College in 1994-96 and a research assistant in PHE, Mawphlang till his retirement.
Last month, the HSPDP had released the first list of candidates. Among them, the sitting legislators contesting the elections are Phlastingwell Pangniang from Rambrai-Jyrngam, Witting Mawsor from Mawshynrut and Diosstarness Jyndiang from Nongstoin.
Two sitting MDCs in the first list are Teilinia Thangkhiew (Mylliem) and Samlin Malngiang (Sohiong) while two prominent names are Pynshai Manik Syiem from Mawphlang and Martle N Mukhim from Mawkynrew.
The party has named three political greenhorns – social worker Biolinda L Nonglait from Mawthadraishan, law graduate Defender Pakem from Sutnga-Saipung and noted lawyer Alester Neville Diengdoh from North Shillong.
The coordination committee of the UDP-HSPDP alliance stated that North Shillong, Mawthadraishan, Mawshynrut, Mawryngkneng, Sohra, Mawkynrew, Sohiong, Mookaiaw and Umroi are open seats.
