SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Editors and Publishers Association (MEPA) has condemned the killing of a Bengaluru-based senior journalist, Gauri Lankhesh, by alleged anti-social fringe elements of political organisations or other entities for being vocal against their nefarious activities.
“Those who did the act should have desisted themselves from such heinous crime and should have given adequate clarifications against the criticisms by the lady journalist in the media, not by taking away her life,” MEPA said in a statement on Wednesday.
The association, while condemning the murder of Lankhesh, said it was an act of cowardice and savagery.
MEPA extended its condolences to the bereaved family of the journalist.
The Shillong Press Club and Meghalaya Electronic Media Association will hold a candlelight vigil in memory of Lankesh at Khyndailad at 4.30 pm on Thursday.
Members of the Meghalaya Joint Council of Trade Unions and Associations will join the candlelight vigil.
