SHILLONG: The city police have sent out security advices to shop owners in Police Bazar besides proposing installations of more CCTV cameras in the busy commercial hub following the recent murder of a woman vendor.
The police have asked vendors there to be vigilant and urged shop owners to install CCTV cameras in their vicinity.
Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, SP ( City) Vivek Syiem said that hawkers must be careful since they do their business till early morning.
Stating that the police is analyzing the CCTV footages to get more details of the incident, Syiem also informed that a proposal to install another 30 CCTV cameras in different strategic locations of Shillong have been submitted to the State Government.
The SP (City) also added that the CCTV cameras would be of great importance to deal with cases of burglary, crime against property and even traffic management.
He said shopkeepers should install CCTV cameras at their entrance facing outside and even police can assist the shopkeepers as far as placement of the cameras are concerned.
On the murder of the vendor, Syiem said that police is investigating into the incident from all angles and would ascertain if the woman was sexually assaulted after getting the post-mortem report.
He also said the case is being treated as a special report case under the direct supervision of the SP office and added that as of now there is no prima facie evidence or pointers to indicate that her husband was also involved in the murder.
The 36-year-old woman vendor identified as Anjana Sinha was murdered in Police Bazar around 1.30am on Sunday.
She sold fritters and fast food on Keating Road. Anjana had injuries on her neck and face.
Anjana, who was an active member of the Meghalaya and Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers and Street Vendors Association, had been running the stall for the past 13 years. The couple has two sons, one in Class XI and the other in Class VII.
