SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills police are searching for the accused in the rape of a minor girl who was forced into prostitution by her mother.
SP Davis N. Marak said the police have registered a case based on an FIR lodged by the 16-year-old girl’s brother Lapynkupbor Umsong and uncle Korishon Umsong.
“We are on the lookout for the accused persons and action would be taken against all who have been named in the FIR,” he added.
The city police are recording the statement of the girl who is undergoing treatment for pregnancy.
The girl hailing from a village under Mawkynrew Block in East Khasi Hills was forced into flesh trade by her mother Aitimon Umsong who cited poverty as the reason.
The matter came to the light after the FIR at Madanrting police station on Tuesday.
The girl, who is third of the nine siblings, used to go to a school in Shillong but Aitimon took her away last December.
The girl became pregnant following repeated sexual abuse.
