GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal-led Assam in paying rich tributes to colossal musician late Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on his 90 birth anniversary on Friday. Chief Minister Sonowal along with Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley paid floral tributes to the bard of the Brahmaputra at Dr.Bhupen Hazarika Memorial Site.
Remembering his rich contributions, Sonowal said Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was an apostle of universal brotherhood and cosmopolitan camaraderie who strengthened the fabric of communal harmony in the State. Terming that harmony is power Sonowal said, “We need to strengthen our society based on the dreams of Dr Bhupen Hazarika by harmonising the development of Barak, Brahmaputra, plains and hills”.
He also said, “To give an opportunity to our younger generations to grow following the footsteps of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, we will set up North East Samannaya Kshetra eulogising the creations of Sudhakantha, beside the recently inaugurated Dhola-Sadiya bridge in Upper Assam”. He also called upon the students to study Dr. Bhupen Haharika and emulate humane values preached by him through his timeless composition ‘Maanuhe Maanuhor Baabe…Jodihe akonu nabhabe….’
