SHILLONG: With the name of a Shillong man doing the rounds since Tuesday for the hate post against slain journalist Gauri Lankesh and others, the state and central accounts departments have confirmed that he is not holding any official post in Shillong.
The person holding two accounts, Vikram Aditya Rana and Vikramjb Rana, had posted on his Facebook accounts that Sagarika Ghose, Arundhati Roy, Shehla Rashid, Shobhaa De, Kavita Krishnan, Umar Khalid and Kanhaiyya should get similar fate like Lankesh.
Rana had mentioned in his timeline that he is a ‘Deputy Accounts Officer at Director of Accounts and Treasuries’ and that he is from Shillong and lives in the city. It was mentioned that he studied in Cotton College/State Cotton University, Guwahati.
When cross-checked, a senior state government official said there was no officer with the designation as Deputy Accounts Officer, Director of Accounts and Treasury in Shillong.
An officer with the Accountant General, Shillong, also confirmed that there was no one called Vikram Aditya Rana in the office.
Following the hate post, media reports had said that journalist Sagarika Ghose had on Thursday lodged a complaint and Delhi police registered a case against Rana under the IT Act.
Meghalaya police said that they have not received any inputs.
