SHILLONG: The next hearing in the Rs 31-crore damage suit pending before the special court will be on September 23.
Sources said the case is in the examination stage.
Also, many witnesses are yet to be examined in the special court.
The suit seeks compensation for loss of property during the ILP movement that rocked the state in 2013-14.
The government filed the damage suit over loss of property, both private and public, following several cases of arson during the agitation. It wants to realise over Rs 31 crore from as many as 14 pressure groups based on the Meghalaya Maintenance of Public Order Act and the Supreme Court order banning bandhs and other forms of agitations.
In 2013, as many as three persons lost their lives – Vidyadevi Chowkani (74) in Police Bazar on October 26, trader Bikash Nandwal (44) in Motphran on October 9 and Bisheshwar Kumar Das (50) in Bishnupur on November 16 – following petrol bomb attacks during the ILP agitation in the capital city.
