SHILLONG: While the BJP began the screening process for the party candidates, the final announcement of the candidates is expected by December.
Party sources said on Sunday that while there are no difficulties in choosing the candidates in constituencies where there are only single aspirants, the problem will crop up in case of multiple aspirants.
Hence, the party chose to carry out survey in all the constituencies with the help of non-governmental organisations and others before finally deciding on candidates, a saffron party source said.
After the exercise, the party will announce the names of the candidates in December, the source added.
The party may face difficulty in Mowkiaw constituency in Jaintia Hills since there are two aspirants, sitting Independent legislator Robinus Syngkon, who is keen to join BJP and former legislator ECB Bamon who recently joined the party.
Another constituency is Khliehriat where there are two leaders, Violet Lyngdoh MDC, the relative of party president Shibun Lyngdoh and independent legislator Justine Dkhar who has expressed his desire to join the saffron party.
