Digital planetarium in NEHU hasn’t started even in 5 years

SHILLONG: The proposed digital planetarium in Shillong Science Centre in North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) campus has not yet started even though the project was sanctioned 5 years ago.

The monthly progress report of the North Eastern Council (NEC) says that the project has been delayed by 40 months.

According to report, a letter was written to the State Government on December 13 2016 for resubmission of revised DPR through proper channel.

Again, another letter was written to the State Government in August this year for submission of utilization certificate and the revised detailed project report.

The project was sanctioned in November 2012 at a cost of Rs two crore   fifty lakhs with NEC share of Rs   two crores twenty-five lakhs and NEC in the same year in 2012 had released Rs 90 lakh.

The schedule date for completion of the project was March, 2014.

It is learnt that the Science and Technology Department is coming up with another digital planetarium in Tura   and the construction of   project began last year.
