SHILLONG: The delay in completion of the drainage and pavement work along the Upper Lachaumiere area has irked residents.
The residents are now demanding early completion of the project.
According to a section of residents, the project, which includes duck channel work, started in February this year and continued for two months before work completely stopped till July.
After July also, there were several stops and starts. Currently, work has literally stopped, adding to the woes of the residents who have complained that they have been unable to take out their vehicles for a few months with slabs lying there and obstructing their path.
They have also pointed out the perils associated with such half-done work citing an instance of an old woman falling into a drain left uncovered for a few months.
Regretting the trouble faced by the residents, local MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh blamed the rain for the delay in the project’s completion.
“I can assure you that work will resume as soon as the weather gets better,” she said, adding that efforts would be made to complete the project at the earliest.
She however said that people were bound to face some inconveniences when development work took place.
Ampareen also said the project after its completion would benefit the residents as well as the students since many schools were located in the area.
