Cong poll aspirant roots for a Mawlai district

SHILLONG: Congress ticket aspirant from Mawlai constituency, PT Sawkmie has put forth the issue of development of the district and also rooted for setting up of a civil sub-division.

Speaking to reporters, he said, “I, in fact, want to see Mawlai developing to a district given that the constituency has over 40, 000 voters.” 

 “The road is the main problem. The demand is for a motorable road. Again, the water supply is also very scarce. About 30 per cent of the people in the constituency who are farmers,” he said.

 According to him, the establishment of Community and Rural Development Block (C & RD) block will increase financial allotment that in turn will benefit the people.

 As for the election prospect, Sawkmie said, “It is up to the people to defeat someone and elect someone.”

 Mawlai constituency has the sitting MLA from United Democratic Party (UDP) Embhahlang Syiemlieh. Others who have declared to be in the poll fray are B. Nongbri from Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), Sarita Lyngdoh Nongpiur, the wife of late politician from Mawlai constituency, Founder Strong Cajee.
