Mukul Sangma inaugurates Sein Jaintia building

SHILLONG: Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma on Thursday inaugurated the Sein Jaintia Building at U Tirot Singh Road, Qualapatty in presence of Member of Parliament, Vincent H Pala, according to an official communique

Addressing the gathering, Dr Sangma expressed his happiness in dedicating the asset to the people through Sein Jaintia. He said that it was a matter of pride that the Sein Jaintia is such an inclusive organization that has been providing a platform to people from all walks of life.

He also said that the government was pleased to have been able to respond to the need of adding value to the asset and to partner with Sein Jaintia in carrying forward the multi-pronged activities of the social organization.

 

The Chief Minister also urged the Sein Jaintia to revive its activity of holding Dramas and Theatres which used to be an activity of Sein Jaintia in Shillong. “There was an aggressive engagement in the past through dramas and drama and theatre is a strong and effective instrument to transform and reform a man especially the delinquent youth”, he said.

Dr Sangma also stated that such assets augmented the potentialities and provided platform not only to carry forward the rich culture and traditions but also provided opportunities to the youth to realise their potentialities, skills and talents. He urged that the Sein Jaintia Building be optimally utilised to do justice to the prime objectives of the Sein Jaintia.

Earlier, President, Sein Jaintia, Toki Blah in his Welcome Address informed that the Sein Jaintia was formed in 1947 and the old building has rendered yeoman’s service to the society in a number of ways. He also said that the building hosted two schools a day school and a morning school for the poor and marginalized where the teachers render voluntary teaching. He further informed that the government sanctioned seed money of Rs 1 crore 54 lakhs for the building. He said that the building had two badminton courts and coaching for badminton for youth would be given by the Sein Jaintia.
