TURA: Villagers from Chiading village with support from forest staff of the GHADC from Williamnagar and Tura range intercepted three Assam-bound vehicles carrying illegal timber from the reserve forests of Garo Hills. The interception took place barely one km from newly- set up police station at Chiadin, on the Tura Williamnagar highway. While the occupants of the vehicle fled, the vehicles were seized. Villagers have alleged that the newly-established Chiading police station did not have any security personnel to intercept the smugglers compelling the villagers to take up the matter on their own.
