TURA: Students of Loyola College in Williamnagar are presenting the famous Broadway musical play “Annie” on Saturday before an audience of music and theatre lovers that will include the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma who will lay  the foundation for the science block of the premier educational institution run by the Jesuits of North East India. The new science block will comprise of a four-storey building with all required facilities, including an elevator.

“Annie” is the story of an orphan girl who cares for those around her and brings joy and happiness in others’ lives.“Every year Loyola provides its students opportunities to develop their skills in dramas and plays. This year our students present the famous 2014 Broadway musical play, “Annie”,” said Principal of Loyola College, Fr. Sunny Augustine, SJ, while speaking to The Shillong Times. He added that Loyola College chose to present “Annie” for its moral content.

“There are some characters unkind and dishonest. But their personalities are outweighed by the shining examples of the good people in the play. Annie shows devotion to her parents and exhibits hope in difficult situations. Despite her own misfortune, she cares for her friends in the orphanage and for creatures who are suffering,” said Fr Sunny Augustine.

In the famous Broadway musical film of 2014, Annie is a heart-warming tale of an adventurous orphan girl who had to live in a miserable orphanage run by the tyrannical Ms. Hannigan. Annie’s seemingly hopeless situation changes when she is selected to spend Christmas with the billionaire, Mr. Oliver Warbucks. Annie quickly wins the admiration of Mr. Warbucks and turns his mansion into a home full of fun and happiness.

The film has incorporated notable songs from the original Broadway production and the musical’s most iconic songs “Tomorrow” and “It’s the Hard Knock Life” are going to be presented by the Loyola students.
