SHILLONG: Congress ticket aspirant from Mawlai constituency, PT Sawkmie has brought to the fore the issue of development in the constituency and stressed the need to create a civil sub-division in Mawlai.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “I want to see Mawlai elevated to a civil sub-division.
There should be a need of development in Mawlai as it has over 40, 000 voters.”
“Road is a main problem as the demand is for a motorable one. Again, water supply is also very scarce.
There are also about 30 per cent people in the constituency who are farmers,” he said.
According to him, the establishment of a community and rural Development Block (C & RD) block will increase financial allotment, which in turn will benefit the people.
On election prospects, Sawkmie said, “It is up to the people to defeat someone.”
Apart from sitting MLA from UDP Embhahlang Syiemlieh, the others in the poll fray are B. Nongbri from KHNAM and Sarita Lyngdoh Nongpiur, the wife of late Founder Strong Cajee.
