TURA: The new community and rural development block in Demdema, West Garo Hills, began functioning from Thursday with Assembly speaker and Phulbari MLA, Abu Taher Mondol inaugurating the first working day of the block.
Speaker Mondol, accompanied by Sericulture Minister Clement Marak and parliamentary Secretary Ashahel D Shira, visited the new block to oversee the first day of work in which staff from Selsella and Dadenggre blocks have been brought in to start the work process.
The new block, near Phulbari, will cater to the entire Phulbari constituency inhabitants, half of Rajabala constituency and portions of Dadenggre block. The existing Selsella block will cover the remaining Rajabala areas and the entire Selsella constituency.
Encouraging the employees to work dedicatedly and urging upon the people to support the block staff in their work, Mondol lauded the efforts of the Congress government and Chief Minister Mukul Sangma for providing all round development to the state, including Garo Hills.
