SHILLONG: Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) chairperson Meena Kharkongor on Friday inaugurated the boys’ home of the Annie Margaret Barr Children’s Village, an orphanage in East Khasi Hills district.
The construction for the home for boys, which began in November last year, was completed at a record time of less than 10 months. This is the second home built in line with the government norms that there should be separate homes for both girls and boys.
Kharkongor lauded the Unitarian Union for their contributions towards the society by coming up with a home for the orphans at the village.
She urged the staff and especially the house father to be sensitive to the needs of every boy who will be staying at the home.
Unitarian Universalist Partner Church Council executive director Roger Bertchausen lauded the exemplary works the Unitarians have done to show their faith in humanity.
“The children’s village is one of the most significant and exemplary ways that the Unitarians in India’s Khasi Hills have put their faiths of not just into words but into actions,” he said.
The inauguration of the boys’ home also coincides with the Unitarians 130th Anniversary celebration on September 18.
