SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya on Friday heard a suo motu case on the deficiencies in the health sector in the state.
During the hearing, K Khan, Additional Senior Government Advocate, submitted that pursuant to the order of the court, the Supervisory Committee under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary is now holding meetings every week and all the relevant aspects of the matter are being attended to.
Khan also submitted that apart from the affidavit of the Chief Secretary as required by the earlier order dated 16.08.2017, another comprehensive affidavit of the action taken is being prepared and he would be filing the same before the next date.

“In the totality of circumstances, though we adjourn this matter today but it would be expected of the Committee concerned to attend to all the areas seriously and it would also be expected of the concerned Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya to state by way of affidavit the areas attended at and deficiencies removed as also other concrete steps taken,” the order said.
As regards the other issues indicated, the court allowed SP Mahanta to supply his suggestions in writing to K Khan, who may issue proper advice to the Committee concerned in that regard.
“Having regard to the subject-matter of this PIL and requirements on the part of the Government of Meghalaya and the Committee constituted under the order of this Court, it is also considered proper and hence, ordered that the minutes of meeting of the Committee shall invariably be forwarded immediately after the meeting to K Khan, Addl.Sr.GA, who may state his opinion/advice and it would be expected of the Committee to take note of and act upon such advice in the next meeting,” the order added.
