SHILLONG: Former bureaucrat and the son of a former chief minister are on the list of Congress ticket aspirants.
The Congress has received multiple applications for poll ticket in several constituencies.
More than 100 forms were issued till Friday, the last day for application. The process started on August 31.
Sources in the party said retired government official Jopthiaw Lyngdoh has applied from Nartiang, currently represented by Congress legislator Sniawbhalang Dhar.
Also the son of former chief minister late EK Mawlong, George Lyngdoh, has taken form for Umroi constituency.
Sniawbhalang’s brother Ngaitlang Dhar is the current MLA.
It has to be seen how many applicants submit their forms, which will be an indication of their intention to contest the 2018 polls on Congress ticket. Five Congress legislators have not taken party forms. Though former minister AL Hek had shown inclination towards BJP, he collected application form on Friday.
