Street play focuses on drugs, trafficking

SHILLONG: The District Legal Services Authority organised a street play to create awareness on the ill effects of drug abuse and human trafficking at MUDA Complex in Police Bazar on Saturday.
Street plays were presented by personnel of Sadar Police Station along with students of the Social Work Department of Martin Luther Christian University, Professionals Academy and Members of the Shillong Bar Association and staff of the Shillong court.
Naomi Bhuyan, associate professor at Sankardev College, directed the play Storm Watch that focused on the vicious circle of drug abuse that also leads to sexual exploitation and organ trade. People who spoke on drugs abuse and human trafficking were B. Khriam, Shillong CJM, Davis R Marak, East Khasi Hills SP, Vivek Syiem, SP (City), and Rajiv Nath, public prosecutor.
The speakers stressed on the need for adopting a holistic approach to tackle the menace of drugs and human trafficking. The programme was the concept of E. Kharumnuid, District and Sessions Judge.
